Victims of Alcohol kills 143 people in India So

Bengal - The death toll oplosan liquor tragedy in West Bengal, India continues to grow. Until now reported 143 people were killed and about 100 others were taken to hospital.

"So far 143 people are reported dead," said local health officials, Shikha Adhikari as reported by Hindustan Times, Thursday (15/12/2011).

The death toll is known to experience shortness of breath due to poisoning substance methyl, a type of clam hazardous substances. Most of the deaths came from the village Usthi, Mandirbazar and Magrahat.

Official sources said, a lot of new victims were rushed to hospital on Wednesday (14/12) afternoon. While others were newly admitted to hospital on Thursday (15/12), so the number of victims continues to increase.

Hospital of Diamond Harbour Sub-Division has prepared a treatment center for victims of the liquor oplosan.

"Overall, there were 327 people who rushed to the hospital. About 35 of them have been dead on arrival at the hospital, while 68 others died in hospital. Then another 25 people died in other hospitals, including hospitals in Calcutta, as the reference, "said Adhikari.

This tragedy occurred when villagers consume liquor on Tuesday (13/11) and, in tents near the Railway Station Sangrampur. Shortly after sipping liquor, residents later experienced nausea and vomiting. They also complain of abdominal pain.

This tragedy is one of the worst tragedies oplosan liquor that ever happened in India. In 1992, about 200 people in Orissa have died after consuming spurious liquor. Then in 2009, a similar incident occurred in Gujarat, killing 136 people.
