WASHINGTON - Troy Davis, a resident of the United States (U.S.) are charged with the murder of a police officer, is finally executed. Previously, the execution was delayed for four times.
Parole Board Granting Party and the State of Georgia Security Penalties, rejected the request for a pardon from the black man. Davis himself was considered guilty of shooting a white police officer Mark MacPhail in 1989.
But even if found guilty, during the investigation lasted no physical evidence that shows that he was involved with the shootings.
Campaign to pardon the Davies also involves many famous figures. Starting from former President Jimmy Carter to Pope Benedict XVI also asked for forgiveness given to Davis.
"The struggle for justice does not work for me," Davis said in a letter written to his supporters as quoted by the Associated Press, Thursday (09/22/2011).
In the end, after struggling to get a pardon and after four times of execution pending appeal which he proposed as a result, Davis was sentenced to death on Wednesday, September 21. He died after a lethal injection at 19:00 pm local time.
"I continue to pray and make peace. But I will not stop fighting until the Lord I take a life," said Davis shortly before being executed.
Mark MacPhail in 1989 and died from a gunshot wound at close range in the heart and head. Troy Davis is considered guilty in the incident, although there is no strong evidence about his involvement. While the witnesses had already attracted a statement of their testimony for this incident.
The victim's family during this continued to insist that Davis is the shooter. While up to the execution, Davis still declared his innocence.
